About Me

Rachael has held various positions across multiple industries. Throughout her career she has had a strong passion for teaching, learning, advocating, crafting, nature and technology.

Looking back at how I found myself in the Master of Arts in Educational Technology graduate program, I realize that it was as much chance as it was choosing to be an "alternative student" by pursuing my degrees later in life. This wasn't part of my grand life plan when I was younger. In fact, I never felt the need to get my degrees until one defining life event made me realize its necessity. The birth of my amazing and precocious daughter helped me to realize that getting my degrees wouldn't be just for me. It would be a way for me to support my daughter financially by bettering my chances of higher paying jobs. It would be a way for me to be an example to her to never stop learning. It would an opportunity for me to show her that if you want something bad enough, no matter what obstacles may be in your way, if you look deep inside yourself you will find the courage to achieve it. For the past five and a half years I have worked full time during the day and then at night after she is asleep I have also been attending school full time. To achieve an associates, bachelors and masters in that time is a big accomplishment. To do it while raising a family and not letting it interfere with family time is an even bigger one. I'm proud of this crazy journey that I have made it through. It has taught me a tremendous amount about myself and others. I will be a lifelong learner, but I'm glad it started out this way.

Here I am standing on a rock formation on an island in the middle of the West Arm of Moira Sound, near Prince of Wales Island, Southeast Alaska. My husband and I stopped here for a rest while kayaking across the sound.

The picture above was taken on a charter fishing boat trip in Ketchikan, Alaska where my husband and I were married --just minutes before saying "I do".  The picture to the left is of me holding a King Salmon that I caught just moments after saying "I do".
